According to the information received from the sources, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the selection of Buch for the initial period of 3 years. Prior to this, Butch worked at the New Development Bank in Shanghai. Madhabi Puri Buch, who started her career with ICICI Bank, served as MD and CEO of ICICI Securities from February 2009 to May 2011.

MBA from IIM Ahmedabad

 Madhabi Puri Buch's schooling has been done from Delhi and Mumbai. After this he did a bachelor's degree from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He has done MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM, Ahmedabad). He has also taught in the UK after working in ICICI Bank early in his career.


 Ajay Tyagi's service extension was expected

 In 2011, she moved to Singapore, where she joined Greater Pacific Capital LLP. It was waiting on behalf of the stock market whether SEBI would get a new chairman or service extension would be given to the current chief Ajay Tyagi.

6th December was the last date of application

 In October, the Finance Ministry had sought applications for the appointment of SEBI chairperson. The last date for this was fixed as 6 December. In the information given by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 22 February, it was said that the process of shortlisting is going on.


 As per the process of appointment of regulators, applicants are shortlisted by the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee. It is headed by the Finance Secretary.
